Whale sharks have over 300 rows of teeth to filter plankton and krill-but are harmless to us humans-who sometimes need to filter information in our busy-ness of business.
When in marketing at IBM, I once read a book on sales by Harvey McKay, titled ‘Swim with the Sharks-without being eaten alive’. Great tips on sales but not much about sharks except the catchy title and a line I particularly liked:
‘He who burns his bridges must be a damn good swimmer.’
I believe it’s much more important to build bridges-than burn them-and although I’ve met a few sharks on land, there have been far more wonderful people across many oceans; and we should never assume that because someone lives on the other side of the sea, that they necessarily see things differently. Wherever we may be…be present and:
-Think big-and don’t be frightened by big dreams or big goals
-If you’re not somewhat frightened by a new challenge, it likely isn’t big enough for you
-Feel the fear and do it anyway
-Be big enough to matter-but small enough to care
If you ever feel like you’re drowning in a sea of uncertainly, remember the quote by Woodrow Wilson: ‘The man who swims against the tide knows the strength of it’
And if you’d like to see a short 90 second video to chill with the krill, just go back to the ‘adventure video’
